Expanding Starr Seigle
in the Pacific

Jack Bates has been named chairman of Starr Seigle Communications as the large marketing agency expands in the Pacific. The company opened an office in Guam last year. "The office in Guam is doing very well and we're looking for other opportunities to expand out of Hawaii," Bates said. "We see Hawaii as our hub rather than our only point of existence."

Bates previously was the chief executive officer. In 1992, he was named advertising man of the year by the Honolulu Advertising Federation. He serves on the national board of directors for the American Heart Association and chairs its consumer health marketing committee. Bates began his career with United Airlines in Chicago as a management trainee and was then shifted to advertising. He worked as marketing director for Alaska Airlines before coming to Hawaii in 1976 for Milici Valenti Ng Park Advertising. He joined Starr Seigle in 1980.
