Making his (land)mark
on Big Isle hotel

Steve Winter will manage all administrative and operations of the 451-room King Kamehameha's Kona Beach Hotel in Kailua-Kona on the Big Island.

The historic location is a special place for Winter.

"There is the heiau off the front beach and we are responsible for keeping it restored," Winter said. "The hotel is one of Hawaii's more notable landmarks and historical hotels."

He has 25 years in the hospitality business and for the past four years was managing director of The Imperial of Waikiki.

Winter also was managing director of the Waikiki Joy Hotel from 1988 to 1993 and also founded Boutique Hotels of Hawaii as a marketing company. He also was vice president of operations for 10 years at Colony Hotels and Resorts Inc., Honolulu.

King Kamehameha's Kona Beach Hotel is part of the HTH hotel chain.
