Do you know the way out of San Jose?

The UH men's basketball team followed Saturday's promising homecourt win over San Diego State with a 70-55 disaster at San Jose State's Event Center last night.

Four Spartans (10-9, 3-3 WAC) scored in double figures, led by 6-7 senior center Will Trawick's 18 points.

Hawaii's 6-foot-8 transfer junior center Marquette Alexander scored a game-high, career-high 29 points while shooting 11-for-15 from the field and 7-for-7 from the line. He also had seven rebounds and three assists.

Alexander kept the Rainbows (4-14, 1-5 WAC) in it in the second half, scoring 17 of his points. They closed within 4 at one juncture, mostly due to his efforts.

Alexander raised his team-leading scoring average from 12.1 to 13.0.

''He was unstoppable," said Hawaii coach Riley Wallace. ''He's big enough and wide enough that he can hold the guy out of there when we throw the ball down there and he was shooting his turnaround jumpers."

Junior point guard Johnny White turned the ball over six times while senior starting guard Casey Cartwright, who had a career-high 22 points on Saturday, and senior starting forward Mike Robinson were both 1-for-7 from the field. Freshman forward Philipp Czernin was 1-for-2.

''We just didn't get anything from the perimeter people," said Wallace.

Czernin's performance especially annoyed Wallace.

''Czernin had wide-open looks and just refused to shoot it," he said. ''He just doesn't have the confidence."

The Rainbows play at Fresno State (14-6, 4-1 WAC) tomorrow.
