Expanding health-care operations

Sister Alicia Damien Lau takes over as chief operating officer of both the Pearl City Nursing Home and Oahu Care Facility. Both skilled nursing facilities are operating at nearly 100 percent capacity.

Gordon Ito, owner of the facilities, is considering other related corporations, including an Alzheimer's facility in Ewa.

"Our goal is to provide a continuum of care," Lau said. "We're looking to expand our community-based program."

Day-care centers for elderly also are a possibility, she added.

Lau is a certified nursing home administrator and registered professional nurse who was the director of special projects at St. Francis Medical Center prior to joining Oahu Care Facility in 1991.

She also worked in New York state for more than 12 years at the St. Joseph Hospital in Syracuse and the Covenant House in New York City.
