Grand jury to hear
spa assault case

What ever happened to the owner of Nathan David's, the spa in Manoa, who was arrested for sexual assault?

The owner of the spa at Manoa Market Place was arrested in April 1998 after a woman, 37, reported she was sexually assaulted following a massage.

The woman told police the alleged assault took place after she had a glass of wine at the spa which gave her symptoms similar to a "date rape drug."

Police seized wine, wine glasses, Dramamine, business records and "sexual items" from the business following the arrest.

The owner, a Hawaii Kai man, was booked for six counts of second-degree sexual assault.

He was released pending further investigation and has not been charged. The case will be presented to an Oahu grand jury for a possible indictment, according to Lt. Wayne Fergerstrom, of the Honolulu Police Department's adult sex-crimes detail.

On May 2, the business was shut down by the state Regulated Industries Complaints Office for operating as an unlicensed massage and beauty parlor.
