"We've introduced, in the last year or two, disease management programs," Williams said. "One of those is for asthma. We work with physicians in the community to get people to understand what triggers in their home relate to asthma so they can avoid using the emergency room."
She is also vice president/executive director of Health Plan Hawaii, a health maintenance organization affiliate of HMSA. She has been with HMSA for 18 years, most recently directing operations of the 55-person care management department. Williams also was executive director of the American Cancer Society in Santa Cruz, Calif. She currently is a board member of the American Cancer Society Hawaii Pacific Inc. HMSA, founded in 1938, is a large provider of health care coverage.
