Wakanohana closing in
on another title

Wakanohana remained undefeated at 12-0, but his closest rival Chiyotaikai suffered his second loss last night with three days left in the 15-day New Year Grand Sumo Tournament in Tokyo.

Yokozuna (grand champion) Wakanohana, seeking his sixth tournament victory, held on despite Kotonowaka's driving attempt at the ring edge and threw him down.

Chiyotaikai charged Akinoshima with hand thrusts and quickly tried to pull him down, but Akinoshima fought off and drove him out.

Musashimaru, or Hawaii's Fiamalu Penitani, improved his record to 6-6 by driving out Tokitsuumi.
