HPU wins PacWest

first-place battleStacey Nolan had personal season highs of 22 points and five blocked shots as Hawaii Pacific (10-5, 3-0 PacWest) downed Alaska-Fairbanks (11-4, 2-1), 78-59, at Mid-Pacific Gym last night. The victory was the Sea Warriors' sixth in a row since falling to 4-5.
DeWayn Allen also scored 22 points and Willie Flowers grabbed 16 rebounds for the Sea Warriors, who went on a 15-0 second-half run to break the game open.
Sanjey Noriega led the Na-nooks with 14 points.
Alaska-Anchorage 89, BYU-Hawaii 76: At Laie, Chris Hamey and Jim Hajdukovich combined for 44 points and the Seawolves (1-5, 3-0 PacWest) connected on 5 of 7 3-point shots in the second half to beat the Seasiders (7-8, 1-2).
David Evans scored 17 of his game-high 29 points in the second half for BYUH.
Hawaii-Hilo 98, Montana State-Billings 91: At Hilo, Merriel Jenkins scored 28 points and pulled down 15 rebounds, leading the Vulcans (5-10, 1-2 PacWest) past the Yellow Jackets (8-11, 0-3).
Markus Hallgrimson scored 26 points by making 10 of his 16 shots from the field for Montana State-Billings.
Jenkins also dished out four assists for the Vulcans.
Chaminade 82, Western New Mexico 62: At McCabe Gym, the Silverswords shot out to a 46-27 halftime lead and breezed to a PacWest Conference victory over the Mustangs.
John Krafels led the way for Chaminade with 22 points. Four other Silverswords also scored in double figures.
Marcus Murphy and Stanley Martin scored 15 points each, and Timi Berkovitch and Kenzie Weir added 10 apiece for the Silverswords.
Gary Gulley was the high scorer for Western New Mexico with 15. He also led the team with five assists.
