Coaches--Hawaii: Mike Wilton (7th season, 120-52). UCSD: Jon Stevenson (1st season, 1-2) Rainbow playbook
UC San Diego Tritons
Records--Hawaii: 1-0 overall, 1-0 MPSF. UCSD: 1-2 overall, 0-2 MPSF.
The Tritons: Devon Jeffcoat (6-6 senior middle blocker) had eight kills and three blocks in Wednesday's loss to the Rainbows. Zack Hite (6-2 sophomore outside hitter) led the team with nine kills but hit -.042; Kurt Seckington (6-0 senior setter) had 30 setting assists.
The Rainbows: Dejan Miladinovic (6-7 sophomore blocker) had a match-high 10 kills Wednesday while Torry Tukuafu (6-6 sophomore swing) added nine. Andre Breuer (6-9 junior blocker) was in on 12 of Hawaii's 151/2 blocks, with three solos and nine assists ... Hawaii outdug UCSD, 22-11, and hit .384 as a team to the Tritons' .065.
Interesting facts: Hawaii leads the series, 21-0. The Tritons last took a set off the Rainbows in 1997, a match Hawaii won in four. UCSD has won just four games against Hawaii, losing in four twice and five once ... Breuer is listed day-to-day after severely spraining his ankle in Game 3 against UCSD Wednesday. Freshman Cori Kamanao (6-6) could see considerable action tonight in the middle but it is likely that 6-4 sophomore Brenton Davis will move into the starting spot in place of Breuer.
Game plan: ""What we want to do is battle and be in a position to win," said UCSD coach Stevenson. "We can do that by ball-control, serving aggressively. We almost have to play perfect against these guys."
First serve: 7:05 p.m. tonight.
On the air: Live on KFVE TV (Channel 5).
