Star-BulletinSt. Louis School offensive coordinator Ron Lee said last night he is interested in an assistant coaching position offered him by the University of Hawaii.
But Lee, who is the manager of the Outrigger Main Showroom and the Polynesian Palace, said he cannot commit to the job until he discusses the matter today with Outrigger officials.
"I am interested but I am still employed by the Outrigger," said the 54-year-old Lee, who instituted the run-and-shoot offense at St. Louis and led Kaiser to the Prep Bowl crown in 1979.
"I need to work something out with the Outrigger, which I haven't done yet."
Lee, who has helped his younger brother, Cal, take St. Louis to 14 Prep Bowl championships, indicated he will know today whether or not he joins the staff of longtime friend, new UH football coach June Jones.
Mike Cavanaugh, an assistant line coach for Jones at San Diego, was confirmed yesterday as the Rainbows' new offensive line coach.
Already hired to help Jones are Dennis McKnight (special teams), Wes Suan (offensive assistant), George Lumpkin (assistant head coach), and Rich Miano (secondary).
Greg McMackin, fired last month as the Seattle Seahawks defensive coordinator, is expected to be named shortly as the Rainbows' defensive coordinator.
