Iolani tops Maryknoll
in ILH opener

Iolani opened defense of its Interscholastic League of Honolulu and state titles by defeating Maryknoll, 58-43, last night at the Damien gym.

Bronson Melemai and Brad Anderson each scored 14 points and Cord Anderson added 13 to lead Iolani. The Raiders (1-0) broke open a close game with a 12-5 run in the final quarter.

Kenneth Lindsay led Maryknoll (0-1) with 15 points and Matthew Robinson had 13.

bullet Punahou 75, Damien 17: At Punahou, the Buffanblu (1-0) hit four 3-pointers during a 23-4 first-quarter run in rolling over the Monarchs (0-1).

Bryan Turner-Gerlach scored six of his game-high 13 points in the third quarter as Punahou extended its 36-8 halftime lead to 52-14. Steve Gilliam added 10 points, including two 3-pointers in the opening five minutes.

Silva finished with 21 points and junior swingman Ken Gasilos added 18 for Farrington (2-0). Jon Heen and Ben Suiso combined for 39 of Kaiser's points, Heen with 23 and Suiso with 16.

Moanalua (2-0) had a big advantage at the free-throw line, hitting 16 of its 23 attempts in the second half. Nanakuli (1-1) was 6-of-7 from the line.

Also in double figures for the Menehune were Brian Green (11) and Deok Kwon (10). Christian Asinsin led the Golden Hawks with 11.
