UH swimmers
win Ocean Mile

A combined Hawaii men's and women's team won the Ocean Mile swim at Fort Lauderdale, Fla., Saturday in competition with 58 other college teams.

The Wahine members were Candice Cabebe (Kaneohe), Chris Fukushima (Maui) and Jamie Dvorak (Houston) and the Rainbows were Nicholas Larrson (Sweden), Angus MacDonald (South Africa) and Matt Kwok (Laguna Hills, Calif.).

Today, the UH swimmers take on Duke. Both the men and women are 8-0 this season.

VULCANS' THOMAS PLAYER OF WEEK: Hawaii-Hilo guard Maceo Thomas, a standout in two Big Island basketball tournaments last week, has been selected the Pacific West Conference Pacific Division Player of the Week.

In the AmeriSport Coconut Coast Classic, the 6-foot-2 senior from El Cerritos, Calif., scored 31 points and had a tournament-record six steals against Midwestern (Texas) State. In the Hilo Holiday Shootout, Thomas set tournament marks with six blocked shots and six steals against Buffalo.
