The PGA Tour Rolling Clubhouse, a 64-foot vehicle offering virtual reality golf activities, is touring Oahu to help promote the Jan. 11-17 Sony Open of Hawaii golf tournament at the Waialae Country Club. Golf on Wheels
The Rolling Clubhouse will be at the Navy-Marine Golf Course today and at the Hawaii Kai Golf Course tomorrow from 5-7 p.m.
It will be at the Neal Blaisdell Center ticket office Tuesday from 6-10 p.m.; at the Ala Wai Golf Course Driving Range Wednesday, Thursday and Friday from noon to 9 p.m., and at the Waikele Premium Outlets Saturday and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
During the Sony Open, it will be at the 16th fairway at Waialae.
Sponsored by DiGiorno Pizza, the Rolling Clubhouse is designed to promote golf to children and adults of all ages. The activities aboard include virtual reality golf, golf swing analyzer, pachinco golf, putting green and video lounge. All activities are free of charge.
PRO WRESTLING RETURNS: Slamfest '99, a two-night professional wrestling show to help raise funds for the McKinley and Kaimuki high school athletic programs, will start rumbling at 7:30 p.m. Saturday at the McKinley gym and at 7:30 Sunday at the Kaimuki gym.
The show will feature mainland wrestlers such as Greg "The Hammer" Valentine and The Iron Sheik, and Hawaii headliners such as Don "The Magnificent One" Muraco, Jimmy the Geek and Ryan Kawamoto. It is sponsored by The Hawaiian Islands Wrestling Federation, which plans to revive pro wrestling here.
Strongman Joe Onosai and other island celebrities also will appear.
Tickets range from $5 to $15 and may be purchased at Kaimuki and McKinley high schools, Jelly's, Caffe Insomnia and HIWF through "The Metal Maniac" at 732-1110.
TOP COACHES AT CLINIC: June Jones, the new head football coach at Hawaii, will join several other coaches conducting the fourth annual Nike Hawaii Football Clinic at the Turtle Bay Hilton Hotel Feb. 26-28.
Other head coaches on the clinic staff are Dana Dimel of Wyoming, Hal Mumme of Kentucky, Mike Bellotti of Oregon, Mike Riley of Oregon State, Ted Tollner of San Diego State and Paul Hackett of USC.
