Star-Bulletin

Yuri Suzuki, 72, of Honolulu, mother of Diane Suzuki, who was reported missing in 1985 and never found, died Saturday at home.

Born in Ewa, Yuri Suzuki was a member of Aiea Taiheiji Soto Mission.

The family had a private service at the mission July 6, 1997, for Diane on the 12th anniversary of her disappearance, to officially say goodbye. She was the youngest of the parents' five daughters. A University of Hawaii student, Diane was 19 years old when she mysteriously disappeared after teaching a children's dance class at Rosalie Woodson Dancing Academy in Aiea.

The case, one of the most highly publicized missing person cases in Hawaii history, is classified as an unsolved homicide. Friends and family put up 20,000 posters bearing Diane's picture. A body has never been found. Nor has there been an arrest, in spite of massive investigative efforts and related evidence consideration in grand jury proceedings.

Yuri Suzuki is survived by husband Masaharu; daughters Karen Matsukawa, Susan Suzuki, Pat Radona and Pam Matsuda; brother Yoshimi Shibuya, and two grandchildren.

Memorial services will be at 6:30 p.m. Saturday at Nuuanu Memorial Park Mortuary. Casual attire. No flowers.
