Igber sets state

touchdown recordJoe Igber finished his extraordinary Interscholastic League of Honolulu prep football career with a 278-yard performance and three touchdowns on a muddy Iolani School field as the Raiders defeated Damien, 31-7.
Before the eyes of scouts from Hawaii, Stanford, Cal-Berkeley and Washington, Igber had touchdown runs of 71, 15 and 12 yards.
He set a new state single-season record for touchdowns with 27, breaking the 8-year-old record of former Kahuku star Mark Atuaia, who had 25.
Igber came within 8 yards of equalling Atuaia's single-season rushing record of 2,025 yards. He finished with 2,017.
His state record career rushing total ended at 4,472 yards.
Igber and Iolani will play a charity game in Konawaena on Nov. 21 but statistics from that game will not add to his totals.
His other state records are single-game rushing yardage (352 vs. Pac-Five), touchdowns in a single game (six), touchdowns in a career (56), points in a career (336) and points in a single season (162).
"I'm real happy for him but I wish he had broken my single-season rushing record, too," said Atuaia by phone from his home in Utah last night.
Atuaia, who played four seasons for Brigham Young University, said he will probably call Igber this weekend to congratulate him on breaking his touchdown records and all but one of his rushing records.
Igber said he has not yet made up his mind about a college but indicated it will depend on the school's academic offering.
