His Masonic posts included past master of the Honolulu Masonic Lodge, past grand master of Masons in Hawaii, past potentate of Aloha Temple, past sovereign of the Red Cross of Constantine, 33rd degree of Scottish Rite Masons and Royal Order of Jesters Aloha Court No. 1.

Born in Honolulu, he attended St. Theresa's School, Cathedral School and McKinley High School, graduating in 1950. Additionally, he attended Napa Junior College in California. He served as a Napa Valley firefighter and also worked at Natsunoya Tea House in Alewa Heights.

A Purple Heart veteran of the Korean War, he received an honorable discharge as an Army sergeant first class.

His late wife, Wanda “Popsie” Lindsey, was a popular employee of the elections division of the city clerk's office. She died in 1991. She told friends she wanted laughter at her funeral and people wearing bright clothing. She also asked that people give flowers to loved ones, starting a family tradition.

“He was a very beautiful person, very unassuming, very unpretentious,” longtime friend Sylvia Waiwaiole said of David Lindsey. “He had a real quiet, dynamic energy about him. In recent years he studied theology at the University of Hawaii, and over the past two years belonged to the New Hope Christian Fellowship.

“His desire was to build his relationship with God in his last days.”
