9. Jabe LaCorte

HPD officers responded to reports of a naked man running through the parking structure at Chateau Waikiki, 411 Hobron Lane. The man had tried to break into apartments and slashed the face of a security guard with a sharpened metal bracket. The nude man was later identified as Jabe LaCorte, 22.

1. Waiting in the lobby for backup officers to arrive, an HPD officer saw the elevator doors open and LaCorte inside. LaCorte refused to step out of the elevator. The officer saw a metallic object in LaCorte's hand.

2. The officer sprayed LaCorte with pepper spray, and LaCorte lunged at the officer, who stepped back. LaCorte returned to the elevator. The officer and another officer sprayed LaCorte again.

3. LaCorte lunged at one officer, who fired a single shot.

4. LaCorte was struck in the heart. He stepped back and collapsed against the back wall of the elevator. He died shortly thereafter.

Aftermath The shooting was ruled justified.
