Star-Bulletin staffBusiness leaders who have proved that it's possible to succeed in Hawaii despite the poor economy will gather at the Dole Ballroom in Iwilei for an all-day "Success 2000" seminar Wednesday to tell others how they did it.
Organized by Retail Merchants of Hawaii, the session will feature talks by winners and finalists in the Ernst & Young Hawaii "Entrepreneur of the Year" awards program, others who succeeded in business, and motivational advisers and consultants who can tell how to get ahead.
For example, Kent Untermann of Pictures Plus will tell how he and his wife Lori built Hawaii's largest picture frame business, with $10 million a year in sales.
The luncheon speaker is Jeff Nauser, a veteran of more than 30 years in advertising in Hawaii and on the mainland who also briefly was the top marketing executive for the Hawaii Visitors & Convention Bureau.
Nauser will offer "survival tips" for the time it takes Hawaii's economy to turn around.
Other speakers include computer and technology experts, such as Peter Kay, president of CyberCom Inc., and Pat Hendrickson, founder of Computer Training Co. Also motivational speakers include Ron Martin, president of Success Dynamics Inc., and Sam Horn, president of Action Seminars.
The price for the 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. seminar is $65 per person for members of Retail Merchants of Hawaii, the Hawaii Restaurant Association and Small Business Hawaii and $75 for others. Call 592-4200 for more information.
