Mary Ann Mazzola-Driver practiced what she urged others to do.

The public education director for the Organ Donor Center of Hawaii became a corneal donor after she died May 20 in Queen's Hospital of cancer.

Judy Swanson, donation coordinator for the center, said Mazzola-Driver, 45, made her promise that the donation would be carried out. “ ‘I can't imagine why anyone wouldn't donate ev erything,' she often said.”

Mirella Vasquez-Brooks noted that Mazzola-Driver's goal in 1991 was to allow people to designate themselves as organ donors on drivers licenses. Now the Organ Donor Center says the number of drivers who say they would donate organs has reached 25 percent.

Friend Carolyn Messina said: “Her job was beyond liking. She felt as though she wanted to do all she could to help families in Hawaii because she saw how the ending of one life meant in some cases the prolonged life of others.”

She was born in Honolulu. She is survived by husband Ted Driver; mother Mary Mazzola; sisters Marilyn Jolliff and Myrna Zezza, and brothers Michael and Jim Mazzola.

Services: 2 p.m. Sunday at Calvary by the Sea Lutheran Church, 5339 Kalanianaole Highway. Aloha attire. No flowers.
