Han ‘watch’ed
Hamilton

Mug shot NOT all the beautiful women in Hawaii are here for the Miss Universe contest. As evidence of this, I offer you Hingkie Han, jewelry and watch broker who works out of Dale Cripps Jeweler. She was the woman who got the attention of George Hamilton when the actor was in town promoting his cigars at Havana Cabana and later at David Paul's Diamond Head Grill. It wasn't just her striking good looks -- she also presented him with a personalized watch. That's to say, it was a Hamilton, but he happily accepted it as if he'd designed it himself, just as he enjoys the cigars bearing his name that are made by H. Uppman ... Hingkie was born in Indonesia, lived in California, attended the University of San Diego, and was for a time a "Bunny" in the San Diego Playboy Club before giving it up and moving to Hawaii more than a decade ago ...

THEY act like newlyweds, but Peggy & Eddie Eu are about to celebrate 50 years of wedded bliss. At the Doc Severinsen concert with the Honolulu Symphony the trumpeter dedicated "You Made Me Love You" to them ... Leo DuBois is a starter at the Grove Farm Golf Course at Puakea and rarely leaves Kauai unless he has to. But he's a big jazz fan, and says that to see Pieces of a Dream at Gussie L'Amours May 3-5, he'll be flying over ...

Viagra Falls

PEOPLE have been snapping up Viagra, that new impotence pill, and stories about it seem to be popping up wherever you turn. The Star-Bulletin ran a long piece about it, including the personal experience of Midweek columnist Eddie Sherman, a Viagra fan. What "One Hour Martinizing" did for dry cleaning, "One Hour Shermanizing" may do for sex. (Note to Eddie: Feel free to steal!) ... "The Potency Pill" is also the cover story in the current Time magazine, complete with six cartoons about it. One shows a couple parked in lover's lane looking at the moon, which (like the Viagra pill) is purple and diamond-shaped ...

MOVING right along, the Proud Peacock Restaurant folks at Waimea Falls Park say that while the restaurant is indeed closed, as mentioned here the other day, it's only temporary and plans are to reopen it sometime this summer ... You have to like Rodeo Cantina's self-description just prior to Cinco de Mayo: "The House of Sol." In case you're unaware, Sol is a Mexican beer ... Actor James Woods has had to cancel his plans to be a part of Saturday's Hollywood program at the Manele Bay Hotel, but Richard Crenna is filling in. The other previously announced panel members will all be there. Call (808) 565-7700.

Muscle flexing

THERE are some interesting moves going on in state government. I know, what else is new? But now that Gov. Ben Cayetano has selected Gladys Brandt to fill the OHA vacancy caused by the death of Billie Beamer, that leaves some options open for her fellow "Broken Trust" author, Walter Heen. He'd been supported by one segment of OHA trustees to become a member, but Cayetano elected to choose neither faction's candidate. So what is the former judge thinking of doing now? It seems he'll take on Tom Gill in a struggle to become chairman of the Democratic Party ... One other bit of muscle flexing is being done by Punahou grad Shane Takeshita. Shane, who went on to attend HPU and was on their championship basketball squad, has joined a new team and has been chosen to strip down and strut his stuff as a member of the Chippendale's Anniversary Tour. Punahou must be proud ...
