What ever happened to the case of Lisa Au, that beautiful Kailua girl killed in the 1980s? Lisa Au murder
a tragic mysteryThe Lisa Au case remains open and unsolved, said police Lt. Allen Napoleon, head of the homicide detail.
Au, a Kailua hairdresser, was last seen alive Jan. 22, 1982, after visiting a friend near Tantalus.
The 19-year-old woman's nude and decomposed body was found Jan. 31, 1982, on the slopes of Tantalus.
"I still think about it today," said Chester Au, Lisa's father. "And I think about her every day ... every day."
People were questioned, but no one was arrested. An investigating grand jury was unable to reach a decision in the case; after it disbanded in 1984, nothing official was heard about the case.
"I feel disappointed in the system," Chester Au said. "But I learned to deal with the fact that nothing ever is going to be done."
Au and his wife Patrice Au-Kaunamano divorced in the early 1990s. He said his daughter's murder caused turmoil in their lives and contributed to their divorce.
Au-Kaunamano died in 1992 after a bout with cancer at age 48.
Au, 57, spends most of his time working as a mechanic at his Kaneohe repair shop.
"No concrete" information has been discovered, Napoleon said. If any new leads or information is found, a detective will be assigned to investigate.
