Aloha, Aiea landmark

Photography by Craig T. Kojima, Star-Bulletin

Long-time Aiea residents awoke Saturday to a new
skyline. Missing was this nearly-100-year-old smokestack
at the Aiea sugar mill. The stack was brought down by
bulldozers pulling cables on Friday as part of a plan to
raze the site in preparation for sale. The owners, Crazy
Shirts, claimed that the stack was rotting from
the inside and posed a hazard.
