Kamehameha alumni group targets Lindsey
The Kamehameha Schools Alumni Association's board of presidents are seeking the removal of Lokelani Lindsey as Bishop Estate trustee.The association's board of presidents - which represent some 4,000 Kamehameha Schools graduates on Oahu, the neighbor islands and the mainland - recently voted to seek Lindsey's ouster, according to representative Walter Ritte.
Ritte said the alumni group - which will hold a news conference tomorrow morning at Kawaiahao Plaza - reached their decision independent of recent calls for Lindsey to step down. Bishop Estate Trustees Gerard Jervis and Oswald Stender recently filed court documents seeking Lindsey's removal.
Doug Carlson, spokesman for Lindsey, questioned the independence of the group's decision, saying the group has never met with Lindsey or discussed any of the issues with her. He said Lindsey will respond to the organization's remarks at the appropriate time.
Cayetano orders honor for Hannibal Tavares
Gov. Ben Cayetano has ordered that state flags be flown at half staff on the day funeral services are held for former Maui Mayor Hannibal Tavares.Tavares died Saturday night at Maui Memorial Hospital after a long illness. He was 78. The date and details of the services have not yet been announced.
"For those who had the privilege of knowing him, Mayor Tavares was a man of vision, compassion, great integrity and humor, who always had the best interest of the public at heart," Cayetano said. The governor noted Tavares' role in the return and cleanup of the island of Kahoolawe and cited his lifetime of public service as a police officer, teacher, county supervisor and as Maui's longest serving mayor.

A Mililani boy, 14, is in critical condition in Queen's Hospital after falling from a concrete embankment into a ravine behind Noholoa Neighborhood Park yesterday.Mililani fire Capt. Tony Pascua said the boy apparently slipped and tumbled down the 200-foot embankment at about 4:30 p.m.
He was taken by helicopter to Queen's Hospital.
Man's skull fractured during fight in Waikiki
A man suffered a fractured skull during a brawl early yesterday morning in Waikiki, police said.The man, 23, is in guarded condition in Queen's Hospital.
A 20-year-old man arrested by police for first-degree assault was later released without charges.
The fight was reported at 12:40 a.m. on the corner of Seaside and Kuhio avenues.
Black sports car sought in hit-and-run accident
Police are seeking the public's assistance in locating a black sports car, possibly an older-model Chevrolet Camaro, that was involved in a hit-and-run crash at 11:50 p.m. Saturday on Kapahulu Avenue.The vehicle should have extensive front-end damage, police said.

Woman, 20, arrested in Dairy Queen robbery
Charges are pending against a 20-year-old woman who allegedly robbed an Ala Moana Boulevard ice cream store.Police arrested the woman on Maunakea and Kukui streets in Chinatown at 10:08 p.m. Saturday.
The suspect allegedly robbed a Dairy Queen clerk at gunpoint.
