Bronster asks court
to hold Lindsey
in contempt

State Attorney General Margery Bronster today asked a Circuit Court judge to find Lokelani Lindsey in civil contempt after the Bishop Estate trustee called off her testimony before state attorneys last week.

Bronster, who is investigating allegations of trustee mismanagement, said in a motion filed today that Lindsey repeatedly attempted to delay her examination by state attorneys.

The Attorney General's office said it has issued four subpoenas for Lindsey's testimony, and noted that the state has had to reschedule her appearances twice to accommodate her.

The subpoenas for Lindsey's testimony are among 31 seeking records and testimony of Bishop Estate employees, trustees and business partners. Lindsey's personal attorney, William Harrison, couldn't be reached for comment this morning.

Harrison had previously sought protective orders barring Lindsey's testimony, but the orders were denied.

Lindsey, a Bishop Estate trustee since 1992, is at the center of allegations over trustee micromanagement of Kamehameha Schools.

Last week, Lindsey and two of her attorneys -- Harrison and Dawson Taylor of Seattle -- met with deputy attorney generals to answer the subpoenas.

But she canceled the meeting after state attorneys said she could only be represented by one lawyer.
