Talamoni Talamoni rushed for 147 yards on 23 carries and scored three touchdowns to rally Kahuku to a 46-26 victory over Waipahu in the Oahu Interscholastic Association playoff quarterfinals last night before 3,102 fans at Aloha Stadium.

The Red Raiders (8-0), White Conference champions, will face the winner of today's Campbell-McKinley game at 8:05 p.m. Thursday at the stadium.

Talamoni's scoring runs of 10 and 3 yards in the second quarter and 12 yards in the third quarter helped Kahuku overcome a 13-6 first-quarter deficit and assume a 32-13 lead 31 seconds into the second half.

''I was just following the O- line's blocks all night," said Talamoni, a junior who began the season as the third-string back but is starting now because of injuries to other players.

''I told them the offensive line is our strength," said Kahuku head coach Siuaki Livai.

The Red Raiders' line, which averages 248 pounds across, has junior Tuufuli Masoe at center, senior Jesse Thompson at right guard, junior James Tupola at left guard, junior Siuaki Livai Jr. at right tackle and senior Tumu Asuao at left tackle.

Quarterback Kaiser Seumalo completed five of eight passes for 89 yards and two touchdowns in the first quarter to give the Marauders (4-4) and early lead.

But Joshua Ah You turned the tide when he intercepted a Seumalo pass on the Waipahu 22 and rambled in untouched to draw the Red Raiders within one point, 13-12, 3:40 into the second quarter.

Moments earlier, Kahuku had been stalled on a 44-yard drive to the Marauders' 15 , failing to convert on a 4th-and-10 situation.

''That interception took away our momentum and it hurt our confidence," said Waipahu head coach Sam Delos Reyes.

Then the Kahuku defensive line put the squeeze on Waipahu, allowing Seumalo to complete only two of 10 passes the rest of the half.

On the other side, the Red Raiders' offensive line was opening holes for their backs.

''They're maybe as good as Waianae on the line, and Waianae has a great line," Delos Reyes said.

Glenn Kawaiaea put the Seariders on the board after finding himself alone in the flat for a Kawai pass with 7:31 left in the first quarter. He outran the defensive backfield 56 yards to the end zone.

Kawaiaea then grabbed a 19-yard pass 41 seconds into the second quarter to give the Seariders a two-touchdown lead.
