Fly-by ceremony
to honor ‘Diamond Jim’

Veteran pilot Jim A. “Diamond Jim” Kincaid will be remembered in a memorial fly-by ceremony at noon Sunday at Dillingham Airfield.

He died when his single-engine plane plunged into the ground at a Confederate Air Force show at San Marcos Municipal Airport, Texas, Sept. 20. He was 60.

Kincaid was a captain with Aloha Island Air and a designated pilot examiner for the Federal Aviation Administration, Hawaii district.

“We do these fly-bys for people who are special,” said FAA safety program manager Tweet Coleman, who was Kincaid’s supervisor. “He was one of those people who really stand out. He helped a lot of people, and he taught a lot of people here how to fly.

“He was also a minister, so he married a lot of couples too. His legacy really does live on.”

On Sunday, several aircraft will fly over the airfield in formation, then one plane will break off from the group in a missing man formation. Kincaid’s ashes then will be scattered over the ocean from the air. A pot-luck gathering will follow the fly-by.
