Star-BulletinEdna Hupp, 78, who as the devoted volunteer Birthday Lady cheered patients at Shriners Hospital for Children, died Saturday in Kuakini Hospital. She was a volunteer at Shriners Hospital for more than a decade, visiting the hospital once each month to bring in cookies and ice cream and host an informal party for patients who had birthdays that month.
Shriners Hospital here has provided free orthopedic care to more than 16,000 children since 1923.
Edna was a beloved member of our extended ohana of employees and volunteers, said volunteer coordinator Duke Gonzales. Her generous nature and infectious personality lit up our entire facility each time she visited us. Our patients, our employees and our volunteer program will all miss her very, very much. We wont ever be able to replace her.
Hupp is survived by husband Donald; son Ken; daughter Linda Gunnel; and two grandchildren.
