Chieko S. Arakaki, 70, of Aiea, a DFS Hawaii retiree, died Sunday in St. Francis Hospice. Born in Iwata Ken, Japan, she is survived by husband Seiko; sons Teruo Sawata, and William N. and Lawrence H. Arakaki; daughter Lola J. Miyashiro; brother Masakatsu Kawakami; sisters Tsurue Hayashi and Suzuko Hirayama; and 11 grandchildren. Memorial service: 4 p.m. Sunday at Hosoi Garden Mortuary. Eugene F. “Gene” Bennett, 73, of Honolulu, retired president of Rollins, Burdick, Hunter of Hawaii and former First Insurance Company of Hawaii employee, died Feb. 18 in Queen’s Hospital. Loretta L. Burgess, 52, of Las Vegas, native of Hawaii, died Jan. 31 in Las Vegas. Victoria Dela Cruz, 92, of Honolulu, a Honolulu Police Station probation officer, died last Thursday in St. Francis Hospital. Louise I. Hinkley, 70, of San Francisco, daughter of the late Vern Hinkley, former managing editor of the Honolulu Star-Bulletin, died Feb. 2. Mae N. Kanoura, 78, of Honolulu died Feb. 12 in Kaiser Hospital. Born in Waiakea Camp 6, Hawaii, she is survived by son Jeffery; daughter Michi Kanoura- Hatae; brothers Harold S., Shigeo and Hiroshi Tanouye, and Shigeru Tanoue; and four grandchildren. Alexander K. “Alika” Kapanui, also known as Sonny, 76, of Nanakuli died Feb. 8 in Kaiser Hospital. Kapanui, a retired Pearl Harbor Naval Shipyard stevedore, was born in Kailua-Kona. He is survived by daughters Wanda Ko. and Brenda-Mae Fitzsimmons; stepdaughter Haunani Ollero; son Alexander Jr.; stepsons Alika, Roland and Raymond Ollero; sisters Adele Bates, Maraea Tolentino, Rose Keanaaina and Phoebe Gomes; brothers Samuel, John, Francis, Norman and Luther Keanaaina; 12 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.
