Student art goes on display

The best of works by Hawaii students from grades 7 through 12 will be on display at the Hawaii Regional Scholastic Art and Photography Awards Exhibition at Amfac Center Gallery Feb. 16 to 28.
An awards ceremony and preview reception will be held 6:30 p.m. Saturday at the gallery.

This year, 37 intermediate and high schools statewide submitted more than 1,100 works for consideration. Of the 150 works chosen for the exhibition, 75 were national nominees that will be sent to New York for national judging, and a share of $350,000 in awards and scholarships.
This year's top Hallmark Honor Award winners, representing the best two-dimensional art are:
Marissa Oyadomori, age 13, from Iolani School; mixed media
George Jakubek, 14, Moanalua Intermediate School; drawing
Bryant Lagmay, 17, Farrington High School; painting
Ryan Okudara-Bailey, 17, Farrington High School; drawing in ink
Penelope Peralta, 18, Moanalua High School; drawing
