Sadie Hanaumi will perform on oboe
Sunday at McCoy Pavilion.

Two cars to be given away
at auto show

Mint-condition 1977 Corvettes, Mustangs and Cadillac Eldorado "Biarritz" convertibles, and more than 300 new cars and trucks will be rolled out at the 20th annual First Hawaiian Bank Auto Show tomorrow through Sunday at Blaisdell Arena and Exhibition Hall.

There will be hourly drawings for a chance to win a key that will unlock a Nissan Sentra at 4 p.m. Saturday and a Ford Escort at 4:30 p.m. Sunday. Or guess how much cash is in the bank's "Money Chamber" for the chance to win the bucks.

That's not all. Take in entertainment by the Makaha Sons 6 p.m. tomorrow; the Peter Moon Band 6 p.m. Saturday; and Olomana 3 p.m. Sunday.

Show hours are noon to 9 p.m. tomorrow; 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday; and 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday. Admission is fabulously free.

Sweet music, sweet desserts

Enjoy "Sunday Afternoon in the Park" with the Allegro Concert Orchestra, which will perform a program of music for string orchestra and oboe.

The event takes place at Ala Moana Park's McCoy Pavilion, starting with a 4 p.m. art preview highlighting the work of photographer Andre Bachmann, followed by a 4:30 to 6 p.m. program featuring Sadie Hanaumi on oboe and soprano Cheryl Bartlett. A selection of desserts by Cafe Laufer's Cyrus Goo will follow the music program.

Tickets, at $12 to $20, are available by calling 955-3439.

‘Heart’ to beat at reading

Kimiko Hahn - winner of the 1996 American Book Award for "The Unbearable Heart" and the 1995 Theodore Roethke Poetry Award for "Earshot" - will give a free reading today and workshop tomorrow.

Today's reading is at 7:30 p.m. in the Wo Center, Punahou School Luke Auditorium. Tomorrow, she'll be at the University of Hawaii's Kuykendall Hall 410, from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m.

"The Unbearable Heart" is a collection of poems that allowed Hahn to channel her grief after her mother, who was from Maui, was killed in an automobile accident four years ago.
