Q: What happened to Yankee Chang and Galen Kam, who appeared in numerous "Hawaii Five-0" episodes? Pair of actors
no longer livingActor and Chinese community volunteer Yun Kui "Yankee" Chang died Dec. 24, 1989. He was 82. He went from local theater to movies and television, with roles in "Diamond Head," "Gidget Goes Hawaiian," "In Harm's Way," "Hawaii Five-0" and "Magnum P.I."
Chang also appeared in local television commercials. He was active in the Honolulu Theatre for Youth, Chinese Chamber of Commerce, Hawaii Chinese Civic Association and the Chang Society. He led tours through Chinatown, sharing historical and cultural information.
His day job was chief statistician for Honolulu Rapid Transit Co., forerunner of TheBus.
Chang was inducted into the McKinley High School Hall of Honor in 1989 and received the Pierre Bowman Award for Special Lifetime Achievement in Theater in 1986.
Galen W.Y. Kam, who made appearances in several TV shows including "Hawaii Five-0," "Magnum P.I.," "Vegas," "McCloud" and "The Little People," died Dec. 26, 1995. He was 61.
He attended St. Louis High School and the University of Santa Clara. He also was a member of the Screen Actors Guild. He was a past president of the Honolulu Chinese Jaycees and Waikiki Lions, past vice president for the Hawaii Jaycees and a member of the Kams' Society.
