Cockett was entertainer,
HVB exec

Ernest K. Cockett Jr., 62, a former dancer, choreographer and special events director for the Hawaii Visitors Bureau, died Thursday in Kuakini Hospital.

Cockett, former dancer and choreographer for Danny Kaleikini for two years, left the entertainment business to work for the Hawaii Visitors Bureau. He created promotional and cultural shows that went to Canada, Germany, Japan, Australia, England and the mainland.

In 1982, Cockett created “Waikiki Calls,” a show telling the history of Waikiki, which played for six years in the Waikiki Shopping Plaza’s showroom.

He volunteered his time for many organizations and helped with several of the halftimes at the Aloha and Pro bowls and the Miss Hawaii Scholarship pageants.

Cockett was president of the Aloha Festivals during 1989. He received several honors, including the Ambassador of Aloha and Chamber of Commerce of Hawaii Spirit Award.

Cockett graduated from Iolani School and continued his education at the University of Hawaii and Washington, and Columbia University. He also served in the U.S. Army.

He is survived by parents Ernest and Charlotte; brother Jon P.; and sister Ernette K. Bright.

A two-hour sharing of music and memories will begin at 5 p.m. Sunday at Kawaiahao Church.

Beatrice Affatica, 81, of Kapolei, a retired St. Anthony’s Catholic School teacher, died Dec. 2 in Kapiolani Hospital at Pali Momi. Jose D. Balmores, 73, of Honolulu, a member of the 1939-41 All-American National Swimming Team and the 1950-51 All-American Collegiate Swimming Team, died Thursday in Straub Hospital. Balmores, an employee of the Bank of Hawaii, University of Hawaii branch, was born in Bacarra Ilocos Norte, the Philippines. He is survived by sisters Maxima Capili, Remy Hood, Jan and Mary Balmores, Elizabeth Wong and Mona Lisa Wood; brothers Larry, Francis and John; and friend Tom Nasca. Juanita C. “Moki” Cabang, 34, of Kealakehe, Hawaii, formerly of Honolulu, an electrician apprentice, died Dec. 2 in Kona Community Hospital. born in Honolulu, she is survived by companion Priscilla Moreno; son Jesse; mother Margaret Heemink; brother Valentino K.; sister Stephanie Bagoyo; hanai mother Marie Medeiros; and hanai brother J. Ellen Dye Chetaud, formerly of Honolulu, died Aug. 5 in Cupertino, Calif. Born in Honolulu, Chetaud’s parents named the Ellen Dye Candies company after her during the 1930s. Adelaide K. Fonoimoana, 64, of Hauula, a Hauula Elementary School cafeteria retiree, died Sunday at home. Born in Hauula, she is survived by husband Kosega S.T.; sons Rodney M., Kosena Jr., Ferron A., Wayne, Kurt and Toa; daughter LaNae L. Ngatuvai, Adeline Keama and Luella S. Douglas W. Frias, 86, of Honolulu, a retired Pearl Harbor Naval Shipyard engineer and state Department of Education educator, died Wednesday in Maluhia Hospital.
