Herman Hastrup,
Pearl engineer and inventor

Herman Hastrup, 95, of Kaneohe, retired head industrial engineer from Pearl Harbor Naval Shipyard and an inventor, died in Pohai Nani Care Center.

Hastrup was the inventor of the “Eductomatic” sandblast equipment, a former Pearl Harbor shipyard battleship salvage specialist and associate bridge engineer of the San Francisco-Oakland Bay Bridge.

Hastrup also used a $16,900 grant to refine and improve a design he noticed in Thailand for an innovative long propeller shaft driven by an inboard motor for boats.

He is survived by daughter Louise H. Wildman; sons Rolf C., James C. and Harvey E.; seven grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.

Stanley A. Baker Jr., 57, of Waianae, an auto mechanic and security guard, died

Sunday at home. He is survived by daughters Helen Ota, Primadonna Baker and Ann Marie Allen; and six grandchildren. No services. Call from 3 to 4 p.m. Monday at Borthwick Mortuary. Cremation to follow.

Louise A.C. “Louika” Chun, 79, of Honolulu died Wednesday at home. She is survived by son Richard Cardoza; daughter Leona McNichols; brothers John, Manuel, Ernest, Raymond, Joseph, Stephen and Richard Ah Choy; sisters Anne Goo, Mary Parker, Alice Deluz and Veronica Jenkins; and a grandson. Jesus A. Dalumpinis, 71, of Waialua died last Saturday in Kuakini Hospital. Etsuko S. Kuwada, 89, of Wailuku died Sunday in Maui Memorial Hospital. She is survived by husband Watari; daughter Aileen Kaneda; brothers Matsuo and Walter S. Sakai; sisters Esther H. Matsushita, Takeo Ishikawa and Umeyo Kimura; two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Private services.

Abel G. “Swede” Nobriga, 80, of Honolulu, a retired Pearl Harbor Shipyard, Shop 06/99, electrician,

died Wednesday in Maluhia Hospital. He is survived by wife Lulu D.; children Alberta J. Montero and Audrey A. Condon; sisters Ida Carvalho and Margaret Fields; brother Rudy; four grandchildren; and a great-grandchild. Service: 11:30 a.m. Wednesday at Hawaiian Memorial Park Mortuary. John A.T. Park, 83, of Sunnyvale, Calif., native of Hawaii, died Tuesday in California. Samuel M. Ponce, 70, of Makaha, a construction mason helper, died Nov. 6 at home. Robert W. “Bobby” Woods, also known as Bob, 40, of Waianae died Monday. He is survived by son Jeremy; daughter Sherilynn; parents Robert and Rose; sisters Belinda Rosewood, Beverly Barquis and Diana Romero; and grandmother Mary Publico. Services pending.

Larry E. “Dr. Lar” Wright, 61, of Pahoa, Hawaii, a retired bookkeeper, died Tuesday in Hilo Hospital. He is survived by sister Patricia W. Brown; and nieces Gail and Susan. Services held.
