A fingerprint comparison has determined that the body discovered last week in a shallow grave near Kawainui Marsh is Sherry Lynn Holmes.

Holmes' fingerprints, obtained from drivers licensing records, were compared with partial prints recovered at the grave site, police said.

The badly decomposed body of Holmes was found in a 11/2- to 2-foot-deep grave off Kapaa Quarry Road, less than a mile in from Kalanianaole Highway.

It was wrapped with a plastic covering and placed inside a cardboard box.

Holmes, who reportedly died from asphyxiation, may have been strangled, said homicide Det. Cliff Rubio.
