Isabel Benevides of Hilo, a retired usherette with the former Palace Theater and a member of the Portuguese Cultural Club, Ainaola Drive Kumiai and St. Joseph Catholic Church, died Wednesday at her home. Benevides, 67, was born in Hilo. She is survived by husband William P. Sr.; sons William Jr. and David A.; daughter Marilyn Kamakawiwoole; brothers Moses and Albert Rodrigues; sisters Mary DeMattos and RoseMarie Jardine, 10 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Leo W. Bringman Jr. of Hilo, a retired C. Brewer & Co. refractory manager, died Tuesday in Queen's Hospital. Bringman, 76, was born in Springfield, Ill. He is survived by wife Aileen F.; sons Robert D. and Michael W.; daughters Daisy L. Bringman and Kathy K. Hurd; sisters June Dudley and Betty Moore; nine grandchildren; and a great-grandchild. Stuart M. Brown Jr. of New York, formerly of Hawaii, retired Cornell University administrator and professor who was the vice president of academic affairs at the University of Hawaii in 1970, died Monday in New York. Brown, 80, a U.S. Army veteran, was born in Concord, N.C. He is survived by wife Catherine D. Hemphill; son James; and daughters Deborah New and Margaret Cassiday. Federico G. Canlas of Waipahu died Tuesday in St. Francis Hospital. Canlas, 78, was born in Pampanga, the Philippines. Kaleo K. Chong, infant son of David N. and Corinna A. Chong, will be remembered in services Tuesday.
