Woman stabbed in South Kohala robbery

Big Island police are investigating a stabbing and robbery in South Kohala yesterday morning.

Police said a woman was approached by a male as she was sitting in her vehicle on the side of Saddle Road by the 52-mile marker at about 8 a.m. The man demanded her wallet and keys. When she refused, he stabbed her in the arm, police said.

The woman drove away in her vehicle west, while the suspect  fled east toward Hilo in a gray Toyota pickup truck.

Police described the suspect as in his late 40s, about 5-foot, 10-inches, 220 pounds, bald and wearing a red T-shirt and blue jean shorts.

The victim called police and was treated at the scene and released.

Police ask anyone with information about the suspect or the incident to call the department's nonemergency number at 935-3311. Anonymous tipsters may call CrimeStoppers at 961-8300 in Hilo or 329-8181 in Kona.
