Police tonight arrested a man wanted for questioning in the fatal shooting of his former girlfriend in an Ewa residential community.

The victim, Royal Kaukani, 25, died at the Queen’s Medical Center with at least one gunshot wound to the head.

Police launched a manhunt for her ex-boyfriend, Toi Nofoa, 31, accused of kidnapping her at gunpoint from her Ko Olina workplace last fall.

Police took Nofoa into custody around 9:15 p.m. at a house in Waimanalo after blocking traffic along Kalanianaole Highway. He was being taken in shackles to the main police station cell block.

Kaukani died after she was shot in the head while in a Hummer in Ewa Beach sometime, Department of Emergency Services spokesman Bryan Cheplic confirmed.

Nofoa had been out on $75,000 bail for allegedly kidnapping her and threatening her with a handgun in September 2008.
Police did not say Nofoa is a suspect in the shooting.

But a motorcyclist suspected of shooting the woman at about 2:30 p.m. at the intersection of Kaukolu Way and Kaukolu Place matched Nofoa’s description.
