Motorcyclist critically injured on Maui

A 51-year-old Kahului man was critically injured in a motorcycle accident on Maui last night, according to a news release from Maui County police.

The victim was traveling west on Papa Place in Kahului about 6:35 p.m. when he lost control of the 2003 Harley Davidson he was driving and hit a curb on Hukilike Street, the release said.

The victim, who was not wearing a helmet, was thrown from the motorcycle, the release said.

He was taken to Maui Memorial Medical Center with life-threatening injuries, the release said.

Police were trying to determine whether speed or alcohol were factors in the crash.
