Patrick Ivuti of Kenya successfully defended his Honolulu Marathon championship today, winning in a non-record 2 hours, 12 minutes and 14 seconds.

Nicholas Chelimo Kipkorir finished second in 2:13.10.

Ivuti, Kipkorir and four other elite runners ran the first part of the race at a course-record pace. Ivuti broke away about two-thirds through the race. He slowed toward the end but finished well ahead of Kipkorir.

“;Around 28 kilometers, that's when I start to feel my left leg strain a little bit, so I just tried to balance the speed,”; Ivuti said.
