Learn to make sushi

Walter Rhee continues his cooking class series at the Palama Market Dillingham (behind Zippy's, 1210 Dillingham Blvd.) this week.

Tomorrow, his afternoon class will feature basic Korean cooking. Learn to make beef bulgogi, barbecue pork, Korean rice dumpling soup (ttuck gook), spicy fried rice cake (ttuck bokki), chap chae, fresh sauteed spicy cucumber (oi moochim) and Korean sauce for raw fish. The class runs 2:45 to 6:15 p.m.

On Friday, a hands-on class will teach how to make sushi from scratch, specifically nigirizushi, makizushi and inarizushi. Students are asked to bring their own cutting board, a nonserrated knife and a small cooler with ice to take the leftovers home. The class runs 4 to 7:30 p.m.

Chef serves red wine with fish

Sergio's Italian Table is hosting a special Global Red Wine with Fish pairing dinner at 6:30 p.m. June 2.

Chef Rodhel Ibay and wine expert Alan Suzuki have put together the following five-course menu: Fresh Hawaiian Ahi Poke Bruschetta with a Nobilo, Pinot Noir “;Regional Collection”; 2008 from New Zealand; Sous Vide of Sea Bass with Cheese Ravioli and Sweet Peas and a Tomato cream sauce with a Ruffino, Chianti 2008 DOCG from Tuscany; Grilled Opah with Fettuccini, Mushroom Fritti with a Malbec reduction, paired with a Diseno, Malbec 2008 from Argentina; Seared Atlantic Salmon with a Meritage cream sauce and Will Mushroom Risotto with a Hayman and Hill Meritage 2006 from California; and for dessert, Strofulatti stuffed with chocolate, dusted with macadamia nut powder and topped with Creme Anglaise and Warm Caramel Sauce, paired with a Hardy's “;Blake Whisker”; Tawny Port from Australia.

Moms network over dessert

A free soiree at the next Hot Mama Networking Event will be all about indulging the sweet tooth.

Visitors are welcome to consume a variety of “;spirits and sweets,”; and they are asked to bring a favorite dessert recipe so it can be included in a one-of-a-kind digital cookbook.

The festivities are 6 to 8 p.m. June 3 at Baby aWEARness/Hot Mama Maternity at Manoa Marketplace.
