Guard signs with Seasiders

Jake Dastrup, a 6-foot-3 guard, has signed with the Brigham Young-Hawaii men's basketball team, the school announced yesterday.

Dastrup averaged 10.3 points, 2.8 rebounds and 2.1 assists at Salt Lake Community College last season after serving a two-year Mormon mission in Spain. He led the team in 3-point shooting, hitting a school record 10 in a game.

Smith takes over at Damien

Kawika Smith has been named head coach of the Damien varsity basketball team.

Smith played for the Monarchs before becoming a standout at Hawaii Pacific University.

The 31-year-old Smith has worked as an assistant with the Damien junior varsity team for two years.
