A state judge set bail at $250,000 yesterday for a homeless man who was charged with the rape of a Mililani restaurant owner Thursday at her shop.

Joseph Navas, 44, made his first court appearance since his arrest at the Kipapa Drive scene Thursday night. He is scheduled to return Friday for a preliminary hearing on the charge of first-degree sexual assault.

Navas has a criminal record of five felony convictions on drug and car theft charges and 26 misdemeanor charges, mostly disorderly conduct and contempt of court, according to the city Prosecutor's Office.

The victim, 47, told police that her assailant entered the shop through an unlocked back door after closing hour.

She said he slapped her so hard that it knocked out a tooth, forcibly removed her clothing, gagged her with a towel and raped her repeatedly. After a two-hour ordeal, she escaped to a nearby convenience store to call police.

Police found Navas inside the restaurant, wearing only a suit jacket.

He identified himself to police as actors Roger Moore 007 and Bruce Lee, former Gov. George Ariyoshi and other famous people, according to court documents.

He was arrested on suspicion of first-degree sexual assault, second-degree assault, first-degree robbery, kidnapping and second-degree burglary.
