Firefighters working on Maui brush blaze

A brush fire that forced about 100 people to evacuate from West Maui was 80 percent contained as of yesterday afternoon.

County spokeswoman Mahina Martin said increasing winds have caused sporadic, minor flare-ups but no injuries or damage to structures.

About 50 state and county firefighters along with helicopter crews making water drops worked on the fire yesterday.

The fire began Monday afternoon and expanded by early Tuesday, forcing the evacuation and eventually burning 1,100 acres between Olowalu and Ukumehame.

The girl held a pocketknife while threatening to kill the boy, police said. She also had a notebook in which she wrote threatening remarks against the boy, police said.

Teenage boy arrested in 'mob' incident

Police arrested a 15-year-old boy who, along with a group of other boys, allegedly threatened a 14-year-old boy in Waipahu.

Police said the older teen and six other males were armed with bats and wooden poles when they approached the younger boy at 7:55 a.m. Tuesday.

The 15-year-old told the younger boy they were going to “;mob”; him. He then lifted his shirt and allegedly revealed a knife tucked in his waistband, police said.

The other boys urged the suspect to “;mob”; the boy.

The 14-year-old was terrified, ran away and reported the threat at the school, police said. He was not injured.

On Wednesday police called the 15-year-old's parents, who brought their son to the police station, where he was arrested on suspicion of first-degree terroristic threatening.
