One opportunity led to another for Brashton Satele.

More than a year since he last played in a game, Satele was invited to try out with the New York Jets over the weekend and earned himself a return trip to the East Coast.

“;I was shocked,”; Satele said after signing a three-year free-agent contract with the Jets yesterday. “;Coach came to me and told me, 'we want you back for camp.'”;

Satele returns to Hawaii today and will head back in two weeks for organized team activities (OTAs) in the next step in his football journey.

Satele was among four linebackers invited to try out at the Jets' rookie minicamp after a free-agent deal with the Oakland Raiders fell through. The Jets inserted Satele at WILL (inside) linebacker in their 3-4 scheme.

“;I just went in loose, I knew I was in shape and ready to do whatever they asked,”; Satele said. “;I just had to learn the plays and we had good coaches to teach us.”;

Satele missed the entire 2009 season for the Warriors after having shoulder surgery last August. He applied for another year of eligibility but his appeal was denied by the NCAA. Enduring the recent disappointments added to emotion as he put pen to paper yesterday.

“;It's a blessing,”; Satele said. “;When I didn't get my year back (at UH) I kept trusting in God to get me through it and he brought me to New York.”;

SEATTLE TELLS HILL TO STAY HOME

Seattle Seahawks coach Pete Carroll says the team told troubled linebacker Leroy Hill to stay away from this weekend's minicamp to avoid being a distraction.

Hill missed Seattle's first minicamp last month, and Carroll said yesterday as the team wrapped up its second minicamp that Hill was told to get his own personal matters under control.
