Woman struck while crossing

A 53-year-old off-duty police officer was charged with drunken driving yesterday after he struck a woman in a crosswalk at Aala and North Kukui streets in Chinatown, police said.

Boyd Kamikawa was making a left turn onto Aala Street in a Ford Explorer when he hit the 61-year-old woman who was in a crosswalk and fractured her left arm, police said. The woman was taken to the Queen's Medical Center in stable condition.

Police arrested the driver on suspicion of operating a vehicle under the influence of an intoxicant.

Police opened administrative and criminal investigations, said Honolulu police Capt. Letha DeCaires.

The arrested officer, who is a patrol officer in central Oahu, has been with the department for 23 years. He will not be able to drive because his license has been suspended, DeCaires said.

The department will determine what sanctions he may face when he returns to work.

Man's nose broken during beating

Police arrested a man, 29, who allegedly broke another man's nose Thursday night at Kamamalu Park in Punchbowl.

The older man accused the younger man, 19, of stealing something during an argument, then beat him, police said.

The younger man went to the hospital with visible facial injuries and a broken nose, police said.

The older man was booked on suspicion of second-degree assault.

Internet meeting ends with robbery

A 20-year-old man reported to police that he was robbed during a meeting in Mililani with a man he met over the Internet.

The victim told police he met with the suspect about 8:30 p.m. Thursday to sell an item when the man pulled out what appeared to be a pistol and took the man's belongings.

The suspect, who was in his 20s, fled. Police opened a first-degree robbery case.

Kalihi worker robbed at gunpoint

Police are looking for a man in his 30s who robbed a Kalihi business Thursday.

A 22-year-old woman who was working told police the man came in and asked about certain merchandise. As she was looking for it, the suspect brandished a handgun and demanded all the money from the cash register. The suspect fled on foot.

Woman assaulted in fast-food car lane

A 25-year-old woman who was sitting in her car waiting for her order at a fast-food restaurant in Kapahulu was assaulted by a man and a woman who dragged her out of the car and punched her several times.

A police officer saw the assault and arrested the 22-year-old woman and 25-year-old man at the Jack in the Box restaurant shortly after 2 a.m. yesterday on charges of unauthorized entry into a motor vehicle.

The victim, who suffered cuts and bruises, declined medical attention. She said the incident began when the woman began yelling at her, then reached through the driver's window to punch her. When she tried to get away by opening the door, the pair grabbed her.

Fire started by child displaces 11

A child playing with a lighter started a fire that caused $6,000 in damage and displaced 11 people from a two-bedroom home in Kalihi yesterday.

The fire started about 10:50 a.m. on Ahonui Street and extinguished it shortly after, said Honolulu Fire Capt. Robert Main.

Firefighters confined the blaze to one bedroom. No one was injured. The Red Cross assisted the family.

Crime suspect due in court

A 28-year-old South Kona man suspected in a violent crime spree will make his initial court appearance tomorrow after being charged with 10 crimes.

Daniel “;Dukie”; Abraham was charged Thursday with kidnapping, first-degree assault, two counts of third-degree assault, three counts of first-degree terroristic threatening, and three counts of unauthorized control of a vehicle. Police said he is a suspect in the following:

» Sept. 26: A man punched and kicked a 25-year-old Hilo man, then stole his car from Pepeekeo.
» Feb. 16: A man with a machete severed the finger of a Kailua man, 19, and cut the bottom of his right foot with a machete.
» Feb. 16: A man stole a car from a 20-year-old Captain Cook woman's home.
» Feb. 18: A car was stolen from a Honaunau man's home.
» Feb. 27: A man forced a Captain Cook woman into a car at gunpoint and took her to a home in Eden Rock. He punched her in the face and on the body.
» April 17: A man stole a Honaunau woman's sport utility vehicle in South Kona.
