Kanekoa earns Goo Award

Keisha Kanekoa received the Ah Chew Goo award—representing overall outstanding performance—at the Hawaii women's basketball team banquet last night at the Ala Moana Hotel.

Kanekoa, a junior point guard, averaged team bests of 11.2 points per game, 3.5 assists per game and 40 steals. She was one of only two Wahine players to start all 30 games.

She shouldered the heaviest burden of minutes as the only true ballhandler on the roster by the end of the 10-20 season. The Big Island native also led UH in free-throw shooting (77.4 percent), and 3-point shooting (39.2 percent).

The 12th annual Goo award was the only award given out by first-year coach Dana Takahara-Dias. Point guards have received the honor for three straight years: Amy Kotani in 2008 and Catherine Cho last season.

UH sailors to nationals

The Hawaii coed sailing team won its final race against USC to finish second at the PCCSC Team Racing Championships that concluded yesterday in Redwood City, Calif.

The Rainbows advance to the ICSA Team Race National Championship in June, their first national berth since 2005.
