A 54-year-old Mililani man allegedly fired a gun at five people in his neighbor's back yard Sunday night, critically wounding a 45-year-old man.

The man was arrested at his home on suspicion of five counts of second-degree attempted murder.

Officers responding to a 10 p.m. report of gunshots discovered the 45-year-old man inside his home with multiple gunshot wounds, police said. He was taken to a hospital in critical condition but later improved to serious condition, police said.

Police said the suspect had an ongoing dispute with his neighbor about loud noise.

Neighbor Homer Burge identified the victim as Jerome Cristobal.

Also shot at but not hit were two 18-year-old men, a 21-year-old man and a 16-year-old girl, police said. Burge says three of them might be Cristobal's children.

Burge said the people who were shot at Sunday night are known troublemakers in the neighborhood, and he defends the neighbor who allegedly shot them.

“;He's a nice guy,”; he said. “;He's an old Marine.”;

Burge, who lives on Kaholo Street, added, “;We're all fed up. I called the police so many times. They don't seem to be able to stem the noise. Sometimes I go four times a night. Sometimes it goes from 10 o'clock at night to 4 in the morning.

“;The dad, he's got a loud mouth,”; Burge said. “;There are so many guys coming and going. If they drink beer, they pee all over my wall.”;

Attempts to reach Cristobal's family were unsuccessful.
