'Iolani gets top hoops seed

ILH champion 'Iolani is the top seed in the Division I portion of the Hawaiian Airlines/HHSAA Boys Basketball State Championships, which open play Wednesday with first-round D-I games.

The Raiders will go after their first state title in four years, opening Thursday against the winner of the Mililani-Farrington game. The division's other seeds are OIA champion Moanalua, Hilo of the BIIF and Lahainaluna of the MIL.

OIA White champion Roosevelt is the top seed in Division II, followed by Maui's Seabury Hall, St. Joseph of the Big Island and University of the ILH. Defending champion Kailua opens Thursday against St. Joseph.

 

Ho wins heat at Roxy Pro

Hawaii's Coco Ho scored 11.70 points out of a possible 20 to win her heat in the first round of the Roxy Pro surf contest today at Snapper Rocks in Australia.

She beat two Australians, Rebecca Woods and Claire Bevilacqua.

Ho advanced all the way into the second round, along with fellow Hawaii surfer Carissa Moore, who placed second in her heat in the Association of Surfing Professionals World Tour event.

The contest continues tomorrow, surf permitting.
