Venture capital summit focuses on funding, networking

Hawaii Venture Capital will host a follow-on funding summit on March 11 at Hilton Hawaiian Village.

The event will offer companies the chance to network with potential investors and to see best funding practices at work. The summit, which includes a panel of venture capitalists and entrepreneurs, will begin at 7:30 a.m. with a continental breakfast. Sessions, which include lunch, will run from 8:15 a.m. to 2:40 p.m. and will be followed by a networking reception. Breakfast and lunch are included in the $129 registration fee.

Companies that have raised equity from angels or other sources also may apply to pitch potential investors. Fees for this opportunity are $249.

Maui business center tenants celebrate opening

Keawe Business Center tenants Valley Isle Community Federal Credit Union and Old Republic Title & Escrow of Hawaii, along with KBC owner Kent McNaughton, will hold a grand opening from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday in Lahaina Business Park.

Valley Isle Community Federal Credit Union moved its Lahaina branch office to the newly completed Keawe Business Center in January. Old Republic Title & Escrow of Hawaii's new Lahaina branch office, which opened in December, has two branches on Maui and nine branches statewide.

The new professional building is on Keawe Street, the first phase of the new Lahaina ByPass Highway in Lahaina Business Park, at 34 Kupuohi St.

 

'Iolani introduces Economics Chair with free lecture

'Iolani School has established the 'Iolani Economics Chair to expose students and faculty to global perspectives in economics. Funded by donations to the school, the chair will bring an expert in the field to serve a two-day teaching residency at 'Iolani and to hold a public lecture on a broad topic.

New York Times columnist Robert Frank will launch the Chair by holding a free public lecture at 7 p.m. March 30 in the school's Seto Hall. Parking is available in the structure on Kamoku Street.
