Oahu State Senators have hammered out a capital improvements program including $1 million for a stadium site, $460,000 for a new Salt Lake Boulevard Bridge and $643,000 for continued development of Magic Island.

The Oahu Select Committee, headed by Senator Mitsuyuki Kido of the 5th District, approved the 1967 construction program of $14.1 million as submitted by Governor John A. Burns. An additional $3.4 million was allocated by the select committee to 10 projects.

The $1 million recommended for the stadium site represents a 50 percent slash from the $2 million called for in an appropriation bill introduced by Senator Sakae Takahashi.

The Kido committee earmarked the Magic Island appropriation for reef-land development as contained in the original Magic Island project. Other projects recommended:

1 — Educational television translator station on Mount Kaala, Oahu, $5,000.

2 — Land acquisition, construction of pedestrian overpass at Ulupiii Street and Kalanianaole Highway, Kailua, Oahu, $55,000.

3 — Appropriation to City and County of Honolulu for the acquisition of Hans L'Orange Park, Waipahu, $100,000.

4 — The renovation of existing facilities of the District Court of Honolulu, $333,000.

5 — Plans, construction, furnishings, facilities and equipment for a senior opportunity center in the Lanakila area, Honolulu, to include a suitable building, parking area and outside lounge area, $181,000.

6 — Appropriation of matching funds for hospital construction. $150,000 for Kapiolani Maternity Hospital, $150,000 for St. Francis Hospital, $150,000 for Kuakini Hospital and $150,000 to be allocated by the Board of Health for hospitals on Oahu, $600,00.
